The Shaving of a Diva
When Taboo never called back, I took it upon myself to get ahold of Circle23 and Christine Kessler, and Steen was grea bout letting us use her studio and her miniDV recorder, and Circle23 was excited to shoot this event. Mars and I stopped by Walgreen's first in an attempt to find mimi DV tapes, shaving cream and a really nice razor, and I bought a Venus Divinity or something like that- basically a Mach3 in shimmery blue, to do the job. Sadly, out of tapes, we went around town on a quest for food and tapes, but still managed to get to the studio on time.
This, ladies and gentleman, was from the very last pictures taken of me with full hair down to almost my waist.
Circle23 and I had to take the last opportunity to do some crazy hair-ion-wind photos before we began transforming the long hair into a mohawk. Mars was so cute "um, how do I hold this thing?" talking of the video camera. We then tied the part that we wanted to be a mohawk back in a hair tie, and with no sense of doubt, I picked up Mars' sister's clippers and took them to the right side of my head. It is, for the record, damn difficult to try to shave or clipper the back of your own head. Circle23 popped in to clean up lines, and help with odd spots. Then on to the left side... the result?
We then cut the mohawk into a Chelsea, after getting wierd hair-in-wing mohawk pics. You know, that hairstyle where there is only bangs, no other hair. Strangely, I think I really like how I looked with a Chelsea. I was almost tempted to keep this style... but decided that if I was going to do this thing, I had to do it right.Okay, time for that last cut. I did it myself. It felt really good. It felt like deciveness over my own life. It felt like personal choice in it's rawest form. And playing with the finished whisps as a fake beard and mustache was funny!

It was good that I got out of my corest, I was overheating and getting irratable to my crew, and that just wouldn't do. So I stripped down, and Circle23 got portraits of Mars and I together.
On to full-head shaving. This was a trip. No cuts, no knicks, just a trip. It took multiple passes to get most of the spots, so I felt like I saw shaving forever. I also think I look better with the stubble... but damn, if felt great once I was totally bald, all cleaned up (Mars on soap-and-wash duty), had had more caffiene, done some makeup to cover-up some dry spots on my scalp... wow. I think I look hot with the full bald glam look, check it out!

So, how does it feel? I stuck my head out of the window driving to The Director's house that night, and felt every bit of the wind. My head feels hot, and gets cold. Putting on hats and such feels wierd because I can feel every movement of my face on the top of my head. I feel more feminine when glammed up, and more masculine when in full boy mode.
The full-bald feels fake, if that makes any sense. I look in the mirror and go "nice bald cap". The 1/4" hair doesn't feel or look like that too me, it feels authentic. Now with little bits of stubble growing back, it's nice to know my head-hair stubble is soft. My head feels a lot lighter... and my neck is still adjusting.
