Reason for LJ username:

Back in the day, when I was going to Evergreen, Mario Medina and I had a ritual at parties or on late nights of singing back and forth to one another. I remember one night at a NorwesCon of sitting outside a House of Pain Party and singing folk songs to him and he sang all kinds of stuff back to me, and inside folks got debauched and we just *were*. One day he and Rachel took up the ritual... and he and I never sang to one another again.

One afternoon when Dan Fructerman and I were still dating, Mario, Dan and I were driving around, I believe on our way to food. Mario asked what song we empathised most with. I was feeling maudalin at the time and responded "MortalCity, by Dar Williams"... then sung it to him.

I was about to leave for Ireland, and I needed an email address to take with me on the road (this was in 1998), and I grabbed up MortalCity@Hotmail... an acct. now effectively defuct and full of junk mail. I also started a website that I called "Welcome to the Mortal City", where I posted pictures of my adventures, some journal entries, etc, when I got back from Ireland/England. That site later developed into what is now RopeLover.com, for a thousand different reasons.
