Kink Coming Out Day Seeks Artists!
Artists, we want you to participate in our Kink Coming Out Day (KCOD) logo contest! Read below a little bit about KCOD including the link to the website with the details.
What is Kink Coming Out Day? It is September 28. This is a day of personal "coming out" for those who identify as kinky or as a leatherperson or as being into fetishes or as enjoying consensual alternative expressions of sexuality and sensuality. Coming out is a personal matter. Kink Coming Out Day is an opportunity to come out about your kink as much or as little as is comfortable for you. Please take this day and make it yours.
What is the history of Kink Coming Out Day? Kink Coming Out Day was created after an inspirational key note speech many of us had the privilege to attend in Seattle, Spring of 2013. The speaker proposed the notion that we, as kinky people needed a single, unified, event or cause which to rally. He encouraged us to look at other sectors of the population such as people of color, LGBTIQ or QUILTBAG folks, women, and many others and to note that they all had a national event or cause which the entire body of people could rally.
After the keynote speech it was announced that those who were interested in co-creating a National Kink Coming Out Day were to meet on Sunday for a round-table discussion. So we met, and we talked about all the reasons why we wanted to do it. We discussed the reasons not to do it. It then became important for us to accomplish something, including making this happen. The committee began corresponding via google groups and conference calls. We eventually changed the name to Kink Coming Out Day and co-created a website that is considered a grass roots work-in-progress.
Now we want to hear from other people. It is important to us that no one owns this date, the only thing we would like you to own is: your pleasure.
