DC Bondage, Gender Constructs, Negotiating, and D/s

Just back from 4 days camping outside of Salida, Colorado, my skin still feels alive from the Arkansas River and quality time spent.  I am both nervous and excited about my upcoming travel for teaching “Speed Bondage!” in-person 8/20 at The Crucible in downtown DC (tickets available here), Crucible Weekend 8/21-24 in N. Maryland (a few tickets available as of yesterday), which will let me gear up for the rest of my summer travel.

My travel schedule was based off of the “before times.” For those who have followed me for a while, historically between May and September, I am on the road half to two-thirds of the time, and with the shift to a new chapter, I decided to dip my toe into part of this journeying again. Listening to my body though, it was intense to realize how much my skin called to be home for a week between Crucible and Dark Odyssey: Summer Fest and then a 3-day intensive (plus a bonus class on “Sacred Kink”) just north of Albany, New York. Wait, what? Why have you not heard of me running my Delving into Power intensive in person? It’s because it was set to be a private event hosted by LOCK, but they just let me know they have a handful of tickets left and they are open to others attending.

Come the end of September I will also be in Cleveland for a long weekend… and it will be interesting to see how my body processes this journey, assuming that they happen as planned.

However, even going on the road, I’m not stopping teaching online. Monday 8/15 has me teaching “Negotiating Well With Myself… and Others” for just my Patrons, 8/16 hosting “Power Exchange, Power Dynamics: Conscious Inequality, Dominance, and Submission” with Wicked Ground, and 8/17 running “(Re) Thinking Gender: Trans* Awareness and Playing with Trans* Folk” at Karada House. I’ll also be co-teaching “Embodied~Erotic: Sacred Sensuality” with Meredith Muse 8/26-28 as part of Vermont Witch Camp, which delights me so much.

Thinking of diverse gender experiences, recent conversations in my life have found me discussing my own journey. My best friend and I were reflecting on the fact that in the past year I have let my own gender fabulosity fly femme guy more publicly in my day to day (check out my Instagram for examples), so I wanted to share some of the resources that were brainstormed at the Weekly Wednesday series on gender constructs! It ranged from moments when excellence around gender was explored, to how BDSM intersected with gender, to anime and books that featured the topic:

    Power permeates our every interpersonal interaction, from how we interact with the grocery clerk to our kink in the bedroom, and there is a difference between unconscious and conscious power use. However, in a variety of alternative sexuality and BDSM populations, these concepts are eroticized, often glossing over the context where these consensual erotic power plays come from. Let’s examine where power arises unconsciously or through oppression in culture, various types of power exchange dynamics, and why people would want to engage in them (for an evening, a long-term connection or between lifetimes). This will include conscious and unconscious roles, bonding within relationships, and even destructive behaviors. Power is power, but inequality is not inequity, so let us look at this together with eyes wide open.

Join us as we dive in to look at definitions, disclosure, desire, discussions to have, and how to explore this gumbo pot of identity and expression. The assumptions around gender need a lot of work. What are our sexual and gender myths and truths? What do we want to do with our bodies? And how do you play with folks who are going through these journeys? Because you know what? We are ALL on a gender journey. Let’s get analytical, let’s get sexy, and let’s open our hearts as we (re)think gender.
