Why we do bondage

Another reply to the AdultRopeArt list... wow, I'm talkative on there todaySo I'm playing catch up on email, and the post in reply to someone speaking of their love of self bondage saying it was "pretend" hit me like a knife in the gut. I've been teaching rope classes for a decade now (when did that happen, OMG) and have found that there are thousands of reasons do rope, bondage, etc. Some of those myriad reasons include:-Restraint-Meditation-Takedown-Trance-Torture-Power exchange/submission-Roleplay-Art-Being off the ground/forced to the ground-Helplessness-Freedom-Because it feels good-Performance-Fun-Connection/Intimacy-Sadism/Masochism-Foreplay-Experimentation-Spiritual applications-SEXAnd I know folks who do Self Bondage for a wide diversity of reasons beyond these. Some enjoy bondage, some have private lives that can't allow going to clubs, some have no top while others just like the tension of rope for masturbation. Some like the pain or sensation while others are people who just want to get better and practice for a partner and surprise them with mad skills. I've met people who consider self bondage a treat for allowing personal time an others who do it to entertain or prepare for their partner. I know Dominants who do self bondage because their are power issues in having their partner tying them up (or seeing them tied), and other people who do it as a way to indulge in a specific fetish (IE gasmasks, wet suits, heels, etc). I also know people who do self bondage because they want to be discovered and/or "used."I know people who do self bondage because its pretty. And others who want to feel the total helplessess aspect and thus use handcuffs in it, freeze the key in ice, and have to wait for it to melt to get out.For some "being helpless and vulnerable... adds to the thrill of the exercise" is the point, and for others it is about creating beautiful art using camera timers for themselves or their lovers to jerk off to later.Everyone has their own reasons for engaging in "Adult Rope Art"- its what makes us each unique and amazing to learn from one another. I'm sorry if I vomited too much info, but like I said, the response of "pretend self bondage" really threw a knife in my gut.Cheers,Lee Harringtonhttp://www.PassionAndSoul.com
