Happyists and Pleasurists

In my Pain Processing class at Beat Me in St. Louis I brought up the fact that the terms Sadism and Masochism are not always as useful as we think they might be in exploring our sexuality with our partners or in discussing these things with our therapists, counselors, doctors, family, friends, and more.Masochism has become slang in the BDSM/Kink community for individuals who like intense sensation, known to many as pain. But medically speaking, masochism is a reference to those who seek after, long for pain. It does not necessarily differentiate between good pain and bad pain. Thus when we say to a clinician that we are masochists, it can be confusing- do we like certain types of pain, all pain, or what? The same applies for Sadism. We might be meaning to say we like giving intense sensation to our partners, seeing them writhe, letting our beast our for short pleasure trips- but using the word sadist could also mean that you like to pull the wings off butterflies, torture babies, and force people to vote against their hearts truth. Thus, I argue that there need to be new terms and concepts introduced.1- I like experiencing intense sensations. ((Then fill in with the type of sensations you like))2- I like giving intense sensations. ((Then fill in with the type of sensations you like to give, or reactions you like to watch/experience))3- Happyist. Those of us who enjoy happiness, questing for happiness, giving our partners happiness, or experiencing happiness with our partners.4- Pleasurists. Those of us who enjoy pleasure, questing for pleasure, giving our partners pleasure, or experiencing pleasure with our partners.I differentiate pleasurists and happyists because there are many people who want to be happy who don't necessarily long for pleasure, and there are people who long for pleasure that have no idea how to be happy.Just thinking out loud :)
