Trans Teaching Resources
Thank you for attending the Trans Alaska Summit! This page of resources is to help you as you build your own transgender information classes - remember to speak from your own authentic voice! Each of us brings our own spin to presenting on these topics, and through education, changing the world one heart and mind at a time.
The resources shared here are not for mass distribution. They are unpublished, and if shared, please give credit where credit is due. That includes the handouts from the Trans Alaska Summit class that I presented:
Designing and Presenting Trans Education Classes
Trans Resources 2018 by Oliver Smith and Lee Harrington (from UAA presentation)
Here are the first 6 chapters of my unpublished teaching skills book - my hope is that they will give a few tools around designing classes, holding the room, figuring out what type of educator you are. It is still under development.
Let's compare a few Power Point PDFs to see how I addressed different audiences based on goals and locations - national statistics, state statistics (University of Colorado), screens put up for pauses to have MoHagani Magnetek read poetry/spoken word (Homer), length of time (Rotary)... if you are doing Power Point, consider what actually needs to be on it, how you can not just read the screen, but also what you can use to not replicate your work every time.
Homer Alaska for Nursing Students and general population (note the full definitions added by MoHogani, and spaces for spoken word)
There are also lots of resources I have up on the Traversing Gender website, including all of these amazing resources other people have already made that you can either use or be inspired by. And here is the Alaska breakdown from the US Trans Survey, The Williams Institute 2016 Study, and there is more stuff out there :)
Keep up the great work, and thank you for helping others on the journey of understanding gender.
Much love,
Lee Harrington
