Pieces of Passion 4 - Create a Story Together and Porn-oetry
Last week I was hanging out with Catherynne M. Valente as part of her book tour for her newest novel, Palimpsest, a tale of a sexually transmitted city that spreads love to love, passion to passion, map to map. It got me thinking of some of my background in the arts, and specifically about the world of the Surrealist movement. I was hit by a fun game I once did with my first girlfriend, Caroline, many many years ago during the first wave of my obsession with the Surrealists.
Pieces of Passion
Piece #4- Create a Story Together and Porn-oetry
This is based on the game "Exquisite Cadaver," but has been modified as a sexy exploration of our partner's mind.
Each person should have a pen (or you can share), and there should be a piece of paper with lines down it. State a topic to write about. It could be romance, porn, sex, silliness, "our relationship," or whatever tickles your fancy. The first person writes a sentence about the topic. Fold the paper down to cover up that line, and pass it to the second person. They write a sentence about that topic, fold it down, and pass it back. Keep going until the page is full. Now read it together!
Variations include:
-Paragraph by paragraph switching.
-Not folding the paper down so you can pick up where they left off.
-Doing this amongst a group of friends.
-Changing off every line instead of every sentence.
Consider being inspired by other surrealist games, such as Tristan Tzara's "Creating a Surrealist Poem," which is a total hoot with porn. Instead of the classic of using a news article, find a copy of Skin Two, Marquis, Penthouse Forum, Big Butt, On Our Backs, Instigator, or whatever tickles your fancy- find a story, cut out each word, put each in a hat or bowl... and draw out one at a time to create porn-oetry!
