“I want to write to write.”

In the United States, I have a close friend named Jim Forest. When I first met him eight years ago, he was working with the Catholic Peace Fellowship. Last winter, Jim came to visit. I usually wash the dishes after we’ve finished the evening meal, before sitting down an d drinking tea with everyone also. One night, Jim asked if he might do the dishes. I said, “Go ahead, but if you wash the dishes you must know the way to wash them.” Jim replied, “Come on, you think I don’t know how to wash the dishes?” I answered, “There…

Letting Go Of Judgment

I was writing today… such a simple thing hit me full force in my body, aching and quaking in my skin. What I wrote: If we go into judgemental behavior, think “huh, that was judgmental” rather than “I am such an ass for being judgmental.”  The first is an action, the second is an identity.  The first is what happened, the second is a story about it. I added the lines after I paused, and realized what I had just written. How often have I said “I am stupid,” “I am afraid,” “I am…” I am not these things.  They…

Transcending Boundaries Keynote – VIDEO

On Saturday, November 20th, it was my absolute delight to get to deliver the keynote speech for the Transcending Boundaries Conference, in Worcester, MA.  This amazing conference was a three-day event with both academic and profoundly personal conversations ranging in topics from Asexuality to Bisexuality, Kinky to Polyamorous, Transgender to Intersex to Genderqueer… and all the spaces in-between and beyond.  Their topic this year was “Intersections”, and thus, when I was invited to give the Keynote Speech, I had the delightful and somewhat terrifying opportunity to find a message that might meet them all… and thus I started with Organic…

Dear Lee: See and be SEEN

Today a shaman wrote me, their own struggles painfully reflected in mine.  The difference was that my tribe had stepped up to feed me, and theirs had not. My fingers spoke back. I hear your feeling of isolation, disconnect and uncertainty around support.  For a long time, I felt very similar… though the feeling of separation will likely exist for all of life because as spirit workers we walk between.  We sit at the edge of the tribe, out in the wilderness, and walk the way in and out of the worlds. However, what I have found is that there…

Blown Away By Generosity

24 hours ago I posted a call for assistance.  Hoping to get rent covered, maybe the bills, fingers crossed. I have been blown away by the generosity and outpouring of love Aiden and I have received. Between paypal, checks we know are on the way, and other items, our immediate financial concerns are all set.  It’s been… inspiring.  I have broken down crying at points, curled up and gaped at my sister a few times, forwarded amazing emails onto Aiden (and had him do the same). At the International Parliament for World Religions last year, I listed myself as a…

My capacity to pay my…

Late Night Gratitude

It’s 4am, and no rest for the wicked it seems… or less wicked, and more set for seeing what comes next. Through a strange set of circumstances, my Boy and I were approved by my doctors to travel, drugs upped and emergency plans made- and off we went by chinatown bus to DC for the Master/slave Conference.  I had grand plans of attending everything Friday and Saturday before we have to fly to Ireland.  Instead, I made it to the keynote speech that Race Bannon gave Friday night (a fantastic andmuch needed piece on the core tradition in Leather being…

As the art goes up

Aiden and I moved into this apartment in May.  Every few weeks it feels more like our place, and less like a storage unit where we happen to have a bed. The first round of bookshelves went in, and the collections were combined. The kitchen was organized in a way we could both find and enjoy the space. Our full-wall bookshelves went in, spice racks were hung, and kimono went up in the stairwell. The altar supplies were sorted and organized. Our over-bed sex toy supply cabinet, and all the upper shelving went in. But today, 2 pieces of art…
