Rope As Sacred Ritual
Hello Beautiful Beings,
There is magic present in the lines between us. We are a web of fate, for as the Fates of Greek mythology showed us, one sister spins our lives, the second measures, and the third cuts. Then, we are woven together in a tapestry. When one life touches upon ours, the lives of both of us is changed.
Fibers, ropes, and bondage are a beautiful metaphor for how we touch each other. I never met Olivia Newton-John, but her life touched on mine as a theatre kid, as a Leather person, as a person finding my way. Her fiber being cut then, touched mine as well. G.L. Morrison and I were not close, but their poetry had an inspiring beauty to it, and their life being cut short has its ripples in turn.
My life is bound to yours. Bound, a journey, but also bound, to attach.
How are your lives tied to each other?
In the upcoming weeks, I will be teaching a number of classes on both rope bondage and sacred kink. Monday the journey in ropes begins with "Crotch Ropes and Butt Bondage" at Karada House. You can join me this Tuesday for "Sacred and Profane Body Modification," or next week for, "Kink and Spirituality for Mental Health Professionals" on Tuesday, August 23rd. While this class will center the needs and interests of helping professionals, anyone is welcome to attend. You can also join me in-person for my class, "Sacred Kink," at The Sanctuary in Denver, Colorado (September 1st), and at Sex Down South in Atlanta, Georgia (September 8th-10th). The world over, body modification is used as a way to express identity – whether that is self-identity, cultural (or subcultural) affiliation, milestones, political views, or spiritual connections. We have all made modifications to live our lives, such as having a specific hair style to blend in with our peer circles or dressing in a certain way. We will look at the wide variety of body modifications available today from henna/mehndi to hook suspension, tattoos to ritual jewelry, stage makeup to genital reconstruction surgery, breast augmentation to flesh removal. We will also discuss the energy inherent in each type of modification, issues of cultural appropriation, and the social implications of body modification. Let’s examine why every act of modifying our flesh can be sacred, and every act can be profane – no matter the type of alteration, no matter the transformation.
